Title: Treatment as Prevention: HAART Expansion —A Powerful Strategy to Reduce AIDS Morbidity and Mortality and HIV Incidence
Widespread availability of HAART has dramatically decreased AIDS-related diseases and death since 1996. Furthermore, HAART rapidly and effectively renders HIV undetectable in blood and genital secretions and this is associated with decreased risk of transmission. The BC-CfE has initiated a major effort aimed to expand HAART coverage in BC, including hard-to-reach individuals. This program known as “Seek and Treat for Optimal Prevention of HIV & AIDS” (STOP HIV & AIDS), aims to decrease AIDS-related morbidity and mortality among those infected with HIV and to decrease the emergence of new HIV infections among those at risk. Early results from these efforts were reported last summer (Montaner et al, Lancet 2010), verifying the predictions of our previously published mathematical model (Montaner et al, Lancet 2006).
No registration is necessary, however, space is limited to 100, so please arrive early to guarantee a seat.
