Postdoc in Red Cell Biomechanics and Malaria Parasitology
A postdoctoral position is available in the research group of Prof. Hongshen Ma at the University of British Columbia. Research projects will leverage recent advances in microfluidics technology to address key questions in red blood cell biomechanics, transfusion medicine, blood storage, and malaria parasitology.
This position is intended for an individual with a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, or pharmacology with experience and interest in the following areas:
- Aseptic technique
- Fluorescence microscopy
- Flow cytometry
- Murine models
- Blood and blood cells
- Biochemistry of the cell membrane
Applicants must be highly motivated, creative, and independent researchers with desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.
The ideal candidate should be able to take a leading role in the project and develop a unique set of skills at the intersection of microfluidics and life sciences. The successful candidate will contribute in the areas of hypothesis formulation, experiment design, supervision of laboratory personnel, management of collaborative projects, and preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals.
Our laboratory is located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Collaborating laboratories are located on campus, as well as nationally and internationally. Competitive salary with benefits is provided through grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Initial appointment is for one year with the potential to renew annually.
