MITACS ACCELERATE (www.mitacsaccelerate.ca) sees graduate students or Post-Doctoral Fellows undertaking research on-site within Canada with companies to develop new tools and techniques to address high-level industry issues. The intern gains valuable industrial experience and an opportunity to apply their research to address novel issues, whilst the partner gains access to highly trained individuals (the intern and their supervising professor).
- The cost to partners is $7,500 for the four-month period which is matched by MITACS providing an additional $7,500.
- Approximately 50% of the intern’s time over the 4 months would be spent onsite with the partner. The balance of the intern’s time is spent back at their home university with their supervising professor.
- Longer internships can be supported.
The program focuses on projects with industry partners in Canada (companies, businesses, some Crown Corporations) however, dual partner projects involving a company and a government agency or non-profit can be considered – please contact MITACS for more details.
MITACS Accelerate Clusters enables a team of at least 3 Accelerate interns working together to tackle a larger project which can span up to 2 years (each individual internship would span 4-6 months within). The company contribution per internship is reduced to $6,000 when providing a minimum of $36,000 for 6 internships. The MITACS matching ratio per internship is increased when compared to standard internships.
MITACS Step addresses a recognized skills gap in Canadian graduate students and is aimed at facilitating a smoother transition from graduate studies into the workforce – whether in industry or academia. Workshops are currently open to all graduate students and post-docs who wish to develop their “soft skills” and are free to attend. MITACS Globalink is open to undergraduate students from foreign institutions (currently specific institutions within India) who wish to consider Canada as the destination of choice to pursue a later Masters thesis. The undergraduate students (supported by MITACS) spend 3 months at a Canadian university undertaking a research project with a professor. For more information on application deadlines and currently eligible foreign institutions please visit: www.mitacs.ca
The MITACS Networking and Technical Training Program (www.mitacs.ca) provides funding and organizational support for networking and training initiatives in our partner provinces that reach beyond the mathematical sciences community.
