A team of seven volunteer graduate students from UBC left on August 9, to travel to Tolima, Columbia for a four-week Accessible Science Initiative project. Founder and President, Olga Pena, a PhD Candidate working for NGDI member Bob Hancock plans to reach up to 1,000 students from grades seven to 11 in the Tolima University catchment area. Her group will train high school teachers simple science presentations about water borne parasites and proper washing of food supply using inventive educational presentations. These presentations, which use equipment easily at hand for demonstrations, are in a manual that will be made available to high school teachers for sustainable education. To learn more, visit the website at Accessible Science Initiative.

The NGDI wishes them every success and will post a report of the project in the fall.
