HESO 449B: Increasing Access to Essential Medicines

The World Health Organization estimates that one third of the world lacks regular access to essential medicines, defined as those drugs and diagnostics necessary for a basic health care system. Furthermore, 10 million people die unnecessarily every year because they lack access to existing medical treatments.

HESO 449B is a student-directed seminar that will critically examine the role of universities, governments, non-governmental organizations and pharmaceutical companies in the effort to ensure worldwide access to needed drugs and diagnostics.

What: HESO 449B 003 – Increasing Access to Essential Medicines in Developing Countries: Strategies and Barriers

When: January-April 2010, M/W 7-8:30pm

Where: Buchanan B310 Who: Third and fourth-year students in any discipline who have not previously taken a student-directed seminar
