2010-08-30

Congratulations to Dr. Kishor Wasan of the NGDI, who has been newly selected as Chair-Elect of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences’ Focus Group on Pharmaceuticals in Global Health.

Global Health and Outreach Task Force

The Task Force on Global Health and Outreach was established as one of Dr. Pat DeLuca’s goals for his term as AAPS President. The Task Force will function as an oversight group with the following charges:

  • What is AAPS’ role in the global health arena?
  • As a leader in the pharmaceutical sciences, should AAPS assume an active role in improving global health through advances in the pharmaceutical sciences?
  • Does AAPS share a social responsibility to create an awareness of the need for affordable health care in developing countries? How does social responsibility fit into AAPS’ Vision, Mission and Values?
  • How has big pharma been contributing?
  • Identify other associations that have embraced this social responsibility in the global health care arena and can AAPS form partnerships? PhRMA has recently launched a worldwide program called the Global Health Progress initiative.
  • How can individual members play a role?
